The BLUEMED project is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA), funded by the European Commission within the H2020 framework programme with 3 M€, aimed at: supporting the implementation of the BLUEMED Initiative as a key policy reference for all actors of Blue Growth in the Mediterranean; promoting the update and implementation of the BLUEMED Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) and converting its outputs into actions.
Coordinated by the Department of Earth Sciences and Technologies for the Environment of the CNR, leading a Consortium of 11 partners, this project has the privilege to set – for the first time in the whole Mediterranean Basin – the scene for the long-term effective coordination of marine and maritime research and innovation activities, consolidating networks and establishing mechanisms that will remain beyond the conclusion of the project. The four BLUEMED Platforms (knowledge, economy, technology and policy) represent one key tool developed by the project to ensure constant dialogue and consultation with national stakeholders to reach the objectives of the BLUEMED Initiative.
The BLUEMED CSA will facilitate cooperation in all Mediterranean countries, in order to promote the alignment of Programmes and Strategies and pooling of resources and investments, creating the conditions for new opportunities to develop joint activities. Expected impacts include also an increased awareness of BLUEMED vision in communities of hundreds of people.
In this context, IREA supports the BLUEMED CSA in developing communication and designing dissemination activities in particular through the BLUEMED website, the social media channels and the BLUEMED portal. To this purpose, a research grant with expertise in innovative models of science communication, public engagement and science policy has been allocated at IREA for 3 years (2018-2020), under the scientific coordination of Alba L'Astorina. The research grant will support the Bluemed CSA in developing strategies for multimedia communication, involvement of stakeholders in the marine and maritime sectors and editing of strategic documents.
