L'attività di ricerca di Manuela Bonano è incentrata sull'analisi di tecniche di Interferometria Differenziale Radar ad Apertura Sintetica (DInSAR) e riguarda lo sviluppo e l’applicazione di algoritmi per la generazione di mappe e serie storiche di deformazione tramite dati SAR interferometrici acquisiti da sensori di vecchia e nuova generazione. In particolare, l’attività è finalizzata allo sviluppo e messa a punto di algoritmi e metodologie DInSAR avanzate multi-pass e multi-scala per il monitoraggio di fenomeni deformativi superficiali associati sia ad eventi naturali (eventi sismici, vulcanici, acquiferi) sia alle singole infrastrutture ed edifici in aree a forte urbanizzazione.
